Parkway South has a new head boys basketball coach. Ryan McArthy will take over for Phil McGuire, who stepped down after a 15-12 season. McArthy returns to South where he was a standout guard for the Patriots during his high school basketball career. He will be starting his eighth year in public education teaching social studies in the Fall at South High.
He graduated from Parkway South in 2012 and was a two year basketball team captain. He was a part of the district championship team in 2010 and the conference championship team in 2012 while receiving all district and all conference recognition. The teams he started on had a combined 60-23 record.
After graduating from Parkway South he went on to play basketball at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee. He played there for four years and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History.
McArthy then became head basketball coach for the junior varsity and freshman teams and assistant varsity coach at Munford High School in Memphis. While coaching there, they set the school record for wins in a season, won a district championship, and made it to the regional semifinals.
In 2020, Coach McArthy returned to the St. Louis area to become the head basketball coach at Windsor C-1 High School. In his three seasons at Windsor, his teams had a combined 49-31 record. For the 2022-2023 season, their record was 20-8 and they shared a piece of the JCAA large conference championship. McArthy was also selected as the conference coach of the year.
McArthy says his goal for coaching is developing young men of high character who exhibit a winning mentality on and off the court.
