Congratulations to the Sixth Grade Blue team winning the 2024 Missouri Middle School State Championship Sunday, March 17 at the Columbia Sports Field house with a 50-43 win over The Ballerz from St. Joseph, Missouri!
The team coached by Chris Keane and assisted by Jeff Meyer and Josh Rezac beat Joplin 54-31 Friday night then on Saturday beat West Plains 46-39. On Sunday they took down Fort Zumwalt West in the semifinals 47-30 and then beat the Ballerz Sunday evening to bring home the trophy. The team finished the 2023-24 season with a record of 32-3!

Congratulations to Eddie Ahearn on being named to the first team all conference for the Suburban Green Conference! Congratulations are in order for Ryan Shanfeld on being selected to the Honorable Mention Team and Braden Eye for being named to the Sportsmanship Team. Well deserved Seniors!

Eddie Ahearn will graduate from South in May and he will leave PS with many new school records. Ahearn started on the varsity late in his freshman year out of a need at the forward position on a team that went 2-23. Along the way he became the fifth player in school history to score 1000 career points and set the school record for career rebounds. Ahearn in the record book:

Parkway South comes up short despite Eddie Ahearn’s strong performance

The Parkway South Patriots lost against the Marquette Mustangs back in February of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Parkway South ended up on the wrong side of a tough 53-31 walloping at the hands of Marquette. Parkway South was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-14.

When it comes to explaining why Parkway South lost, one person who can’t be blamed is Eddie Ahearn. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points along with six rebounds. That was a full 38.7% of Parkway South’s points, marking the third time in a row he’s earned more than a third of the team’s points.

Parkway South has not been sharp recently as the team has lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-17 record this season. As for Marquette, the victory got them back to even at 13-14.

Parkway South does not have any more games scheduled. Marquette will play Kirkwood Saturday afternoon at Parkway South.
