Basketball Recap: Parkway South Patriots vs. Parkway North Vikings

The Parkway South Patriot’s game on Friday was all tied up 15-15 at the half,
but sadly for them it didn’t stay that way. They took a 43-38 hit to the loss column
at the hands of Parkway North. Parkway South has now taken an ‘L’ in back-toback games.
Loss or not, Parkway South got some senior leadership from Ryan Shanfeld and
Joseph Mallory. Shanfeld scored ten points, while Mallory. scored nine points
along with five assists.
Parkway South’s loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Parkway North,
their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.
Parkway South’s homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Spartans at
5:30 p.m. on February 6th. Hazelwood East presents a significant challenge as
they come into the match much higher ranked than the Patriots in Missouri (the
Spartans are ranked 146th, while the Patriots are ranked 316th). Parkway North’s
road trip will continue as they head out to face the Stars at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th.

The Parkway South Patriots will look to defend their home court on Friday
against the Parkway North Vikings at 7:00 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a
loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this
match.
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Parkway South, but they could
have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-33 loss to the.
Eddie Ahearn put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 15 points
along with eight rebounds and two steals. He hasn’t dropped below eight
rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Ryan
Shanfeld, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Parkway North was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell
47-46 to the Wildcats. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for
Parkway North in their matchups with the Wildcats: they’ve now lost five in a row.
Parkway South’s defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped
them to 8-10. As for Parkway North, their defeat dropped their record down to an
identical 8-10.
Parkway South took a serious blow against the Vikings when the teams last

In the opener of the triple header against Fort Zumwalt East Tuesday night at Parkway South, the freshmen (9-6) team opened up a large lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 53-32 win. Jalen Jones and Tucker Swinton each had eight points to lead the Patriots.
In the second game of the night, the JV (11-7) led 17-5 after the first quarter and 30-10 at the half. It was more of the same in the second half as Jacob Sidwell led the way with 14 points in a 60-30 victory.

Eddie Ahearn, Parkway South basketball

A three-sport standout, Ahearn became the leading rebounder in Parkway South program history. Ahearn, a 6-foot-3 and 200-pound senior forward, had eight points and eight rebounds as the Patriots claimed a 56-35 nonconference victory against North Point. Ahearn’s career rebounds total in four seasons as a starter sits at 474, breaking the previous record of 472 shared by 1986 graduate John Rahoy and 2010 graduate Kevin Pohle. Ahearn averages 12.2 points and 6.3 rebounds a game this season and he has scored 860 points in his career. He also was the Patriots’ starting quarterback in football for three seasons and was the Suburban Conference Red Pool pitcher of the year last season in baseball.

The varsity Patriots won their second game in a row as they beat North Point in their “home” opener Thursday night. South has paced by Braden Eye’s three three pointers for a total of 11 on the night. They will play at home next Tuesday night against Zumwalt East.
