Parkway South comes up short
Recap: Parkway South Patriots vs. Maplewood-Richmond Heights Blue Devils

If the Parkway South Patriots were riding high off their 56-26 takedown of the McCluer South-Berkeley Bulldogs on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Parkway South fell 56-45 to Maplewood-Richmond Heights on Thursday.

Despite the loss, Parkway South still got an impressive performance from Ross Mcculla, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Shanfeld, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Parkway South were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That’s the most offensive rebounds they’ve managed all season.

Parkway South now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Maplewood-Richmond Heights, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.

Parkway South’s road trip will continue as they head out to face Ritenour at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Maplewood-Richmond Heights will again tomorrow vs Fort Zumwalt North at 12:00.

JV Wins Two in Tourney

The JV team went to the locker tied at 21 and came out as 44-41 winners over Ritenour in the Consolation Championship of the Parkway Invitational. Up two with 10.6 seconds left in the game, Tyler Shanfeld made one of two free throws and then secured a lose ball after the rebound to preserve the win. Jacob Sidwell led the team in scoring with 14 points.
The JV is off till January 3rd when they play at Ritenour at 5:30.

The JV Patriots recovered from a lopsided lose on Tuesday with a 50-40 win over Parkway Central Wednesday morning. Jacob Sidwell led PS in scoring with 15 Points. They move on to play Ritenour in the Consolation Bracket Championship game Thursday at 10:30.

The Parkway South Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 23 points or more this season. They simply couldn’t be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat McCluer South-Berkeley 56-26 on the road. The victory was just what Parkway South needed coming off of a 48-26 defeat in their prior match.

Among those leading the charge was Parker Wolf, who scored 19 points along with three steals. That’s the first time this season that he grabbed two or more steals. Ryan Shanfeld was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds.

The win got Parkway South back to even at 5-5. As for McCluer South-Berkeley, they fell to 2-5.

The varsity took a two point lead into the locker room at half time of the opening game of the 2023 Don Maurer Holiday Invitational hosted by MICDS, only to be outscored 34-10 in the second half to the host school. Tristen Sutton and Ross McCulla led South in scoring with eight points each.
The Patriots will play STEAM Academy on Wednesday at 10:30 AM.

Patriots Sweep Lions

In the final games in Gym C before the boys move back into Gym A, all three teams beat Northwest Wednesday night. The freshmen started it off with a 42-39 win behind Gabe Burtch and Landon Nickerson each scoring eight points.
The JV won big in the second game of the evening, 50-12. Many players scored in the game and Isaiah Scott lead all scorers with 12 points.
The varsity got off to a quick start to the game but the Lions came back and opened up an eight point lead in the first half and led 20-14 at halftime. The third quarter was kind to the Patriots as they scored a season high for a quarter, 24 points. The Patriots went on to win the second half 35-22 and won the game 49-42.
Eddie Ahearn led all scorers with 21 points, Ryan Shanfeld added 13 and Joseph Mallory tailed nine assists, which is a season high.
